The Faces of Turnings

Dan was born in St. John’s in 1944. He served for thirteen years as an ordained Roman Catholic Priest in the sixties. Dan went on to become a Parole Officer, working for Correctional Service of Canada in Springhill/Sand River, Dorchester Penitentiary, Westmorland Institution, and Atlantic Institution. In 1988 he moved back to Newfoundland and in 1989 began working as a Parole Officer in St. John’s. Dan founded Turnings in 1992, becoming a staff member after retiring from Parole after twenty-nine years.

Kevin was born in Fox Harbour, NL. He attended Memorial University of Newfoundland where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Education. He taught Junior/Senior High School for 26 years, spent two years as President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association and two years on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Teachers’ Federation. In the early 90's, Kevin began volunteering in the Labrador Correctional Centre and continued this interest as a volunteer with Turnings after his retirement. He began working full time with Turnings in 2011 as Coordinator of Circles of Support and Accountability (CoSA) and also coordinates an Adult Children of Alcoholics program at Her Majesties Penitentiary in St. John’s. 

Ron was born and raised in Mundy Pond, St. John's NL and started Volunteering with Turnings in 2000. In 2003, Ron started working full time as Director and Community Chaplin with Turnings. He has been working with Offenders and Ex-Offenders ever since. He retired on December 22, 2016 and came back to work at Turnings on October 09, 2018, where he now works with Turnings on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week.
